Get Your Game On!

Yes, the title is a reference from a Smashmouth song and not one ounce of me feels bad about it. You are an all-star, and you should get out and go play. Whether you are moving out of state for your job or joining a local recreational squad, adult league sports are a great way to “Get Your Game On.” This article lays out all of the reasons you should lace up and compete in adult recreational sports leagues.

Get outside and be active

Not naming any names, but some of us struggle at keeping up with a workout schedule. Why not  kill two birds with one stone by feeding your competitive side and getting a routine workout. I know Netflix has a vice grip on your life, but having a pre-determined weekly event can help your couch dent slowly disappear.

Make new friends

I don’t believe anyone can ever have too many friends. Joining an independent house team in my new hometown was a no brainer, but it can also be a great way for meeting new people in a familiar area. Being used to an environment where classrooms create forced interactions, adult rec leagues allow for that same organic situation to occur.

Try new things

We can’t all be the Michael Jordan of ping pong, but we sure as hell can try! I know not everyone is an athlete, nor does everyone have an interest in the major sports. If you fall under that category there are plenty of options still on the table. Join a lawn bowling league. Footgolf is a new phenomenon hitting the links near you. Maybe shuffleboard is your speed. Anyone can handle these out of the ordinary leagues. Get out of your comfort zone and get your game on.

Take a leadership role

This is a great opportunity to test out your managerial skills with a group of associates. Strategize, find out your teams strengths and weaknesses, and execute to perfection. You will encounter plenty of challenges, but have fun with it. No reason to create a stressful environment and frustrate your new friends. Test the waters and understand the variety of personalities in the group.

Work Leagues

Tight deadlines and countless meetings can lead to stress. Get your coworkers out of the office and into a fun environment with a work sports league. There is no greater feeling then taking out all of the office anger in a competitive battle. This is also a great opportunity to see a different side of your working comrades. Take advantage of it.
